Chair’s Letter to Stakeholders Regarding Tribunal Decision Search Database

July 17, 2021

Dear Stakeholders,

I am pleased to announce that the Tribunal Decision Search Database will return to the WSIAT website on July 17, 2021, due to the tireless dedication of our IT team.

You may recall the WSIAT’s previous announcement that the Tribunal Decision Search Database was removed from the website in December 2020 due to challenges in making the WSIAT’s Decision Search Database compliant with the WCAG 2.0 Level AA standard as required by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

In the past six months, we received high demands from stakeholders to bring the decision keyword search back online and we are pleased to be able to respond to stakeholder feedback. The search results can provide you decision summaries, and links to full text of decisions in HTML and pdf format. At the same time, you will get search results faster than before.

The Tribunal Decision Search Database allows users to search keywords and decision summaries, as well as other parameters. Every WSIAT decision is assigned a set of keywords. Keywords are words or phrases that reflect the subject matter of a decision. The WSIAT has released more than 80,000 decisions. Approximately 30 percent of these decisions – more than 24,000 – have been summarized by WSIAT counsel. The WSIAT’s decision summaries provide a succinct overview of the background information, the issues under appeal, and the key findings made by WSIAT adjudicators.

The full text of Tribunal decisions continues to be searchable on CanLII.

The Librarians at the Ontario Workplace Tribunals Library (OWTL) may also assist you with searching for WSIAT decisions and other research. Library services are available by email; please contact the OWTL librarians at owtl@wst.gov.on.ca.

For any other inquiries, please contact the Tribunal at 416-314-8800 (or 1-888-618-8846) or at the stakeholder feedback e-mail at webmaster@wst.gov.on.ca.

Sincerely,

Rosemarie McCutcheon
