Purpose

The Public Service of Ontario Act, 2006 (PSOA) includes ethical conduct and political activity rules that are designed to maintain non-partisanship and ensure that public servants’ private interests are not in conflict with their public service responsibilities.

Application and Scope

Under the PSOA, the WSIAT is a public body. Employees and OIC appointees of public bodies are public servants under the PSOA.

This plan describes the procedures to ensure that staff and OIC appointees are familiar with the requirements of Part IV (Ethical Conduct) and Part V (Political Activity) of the PSOA.

Part IV (Ethical Conduct) and Part V (Political Activity) of the PSOA

The WSIAT will provide an annual notice to employees and OIC appointees about the ethical conduct and political activity provisions of the PSOA.

The WSIAT will provide a notice prior to a federal, provincial or municipal election.

The PSOA is included in the orientation programs for new employees and OIC appointees.

Members’ Code of Conduct

The Chair and / or Counsel to the Chair will provide an annual notice to OIC appointees providing information about the Code of Conduct.

OIC appointees will review and affirm their commitment to and compliance with the Code of Conduct upon initial appointment and on re-appointment.
